This extremely well told story is definitely different from most of the books I read. While not quite qualifying as one of the stories that Scheherazade told to the king in the Arabian Nights because of the lack of the obligatory mentions of Allah, the compassionate, the merciful, it has most of the flavour of the stories that she told. This story is one that could have been a source story of the Arabian Nights. It is true to the era it is set in.
This book is well worth reading.

I'm sorry Jason - this just didn't appeal to me. I felt it was disjointed and a little strange as well.
In Night of the Tower, Beineke gives us a taste of an alluring world in which two boys sneak into a tower in search of adventure. While to discuss too much about this short story would be to give it away, it is a fascinating premise that would lend itself to much longer tales (and I hope that it does!).
