Eleven-year-old Joe is finding life very difficult. He never met his father and his mother has recently passed away. His grandparents have taken him in but he feels that his life has been turned upside down. During this turmoil, he becomes friends with his neighbour, Jess, and the two become inseparable. They get up to lots of mischief and share some hair-raising moments together.
Jess proves to be not such a ‘goody-two-shoes’ after all. On his twelfth birthday, Joe receives a kite. It is not exactly what he wants, but Jess and Joe decide to learn how to fly it. Through flying his kite, he feels he is at peace and nothing else matters. Eventually, he and his grandparents start getting on better. Through fun-filled moments, he learns to soften his heart and open up.
