Scott Sigler’s imagination in writing this book has made it fun to read. I can hardly believe that this may be the last book of the series. I look forward to another story in the future. Scott, thanks for the entertainment of Quentin Barnes football career.

Gotta say great book overall defiantly a ton of surprises it's crazy how Quentin went from being a racist now it all hater of the other species to a true leader that he earns viraks respect everything has happened for a reason to Quentin I wonder how his new setback will effect him and if he will listen to Petra now that his fears have been confirmed will he be the true leader to unite the races and save them all or will he continue to put football first before everything else. Decisions decisions I wonder how scott sigler will wrap it all up I know I am anxious to find out. Hopefully it ends with Quentin and Becks getting married along with John n Jeanne and Quentin being the coach of the krackens I suppose one can only hope for best going forward.
Just got it delivered to my kindle. I was so excited I started to read it at 500am and realized a little later (a lot later) that I had done nothing to get ready for work. I am going to keep this brief so I can get on my iPad and continue the story. I started this with the original Rookie recording that Scott did and worked my way through all his free podcast for the other GFL books. For those of you looking for the Rookie on podcast it is not available anymore BUT you can buy the book from for $3.82, and Then get the audio of the new revised copy from audible for $1.99 more, which is short money for all the entertainment Scott has provided over the years. The other GFL books are sill out there on podiobooks in abridge versions. The Champion is now being released in serial fashion on Scotts own podcast feed. Football, aliens, and gangsters mixed into a story of friendship, family, and acceptance. Oh and there is a little bit of violence. Sweet Sigler Violence. Check out Title Fight if you like MMA one of a handful of great novellas set in the GFL universe.
Another amazing installment in the GFL series. No spoilers, but I LOVE Becca the Wrecka!!!!! She is so fierce, yet not a characterchure. She's real. And, this book continues the theme of the rest of the series. It's great for football lovers, but it's also about family, friends, loyalty, team, and what it takes to win. I play Roller Derby. It's not as violent as the GFL, but I get asked all the time why I play and put my body at risk. The scene where Quinton tries to explain it to Yolanda Davenport is a great example of the athlete mentality. How much he has grown! And, we get lots of time with Ju and Uncle Johnny. Even if you're not super in to sports, spend some time imagining what a Sklorno would look like in real life, much less the Portath. If you're into science fiction or sports or both, The Champion....well, the whole GFL series...is for you!
I hate when you get to the end of a good book. A great book. But that's what happens of course.
Scott Sigler has a crazy, great universe created and he keeps up the suspense throughout this book. There's just something about aliens and football that is just so much fun. Quentin Barnes is the perpetual hero and doesn't disappoint in this book as well. So don't start here. Start at book one. Then read this! Of course, this book ends with a cliff hanger as well and I sure hope that we're not done with Quentin and I doubt that we are. But it's a heck of a ride.
To give you an idea of how solid this series is with the action, I've actually read the last 4 books three times. They're that enjoyable. I hope you give them a shot. And keep watching for more Sigler books. He's got a good thing going.
Sigler has done it again. He's taken an already highly intense series and taken it up to yet another level. He's cruel to his characters, putting them in worse and worse situations, but he does it so skillfully that you can't help but cheer for them and wonder what miracle is going to get them out of it. This... this is, I think, the hardest of the series to speak on without giving spoilers. So
**SPOILER ALERT**
The football season DOES happen, and holy crap, is it epic. I don't know how Sigler has managed to make it even more insanely interesting than the last four seasons of the GFL books, but he has. We get taken into some serious nail-biting situations, some hopeless problems, and the gangster background of the GFL comes even more into play. And we have a new threat, a galactic one, one that makes football seem like just a game, even to Quentin. This is another fitting addition to the GFL series.
I do have one small gripe for this one. All the hubbub about saving Jeanine leads to... nothing. Don't get me wrong, the first third or so of the book revolves around rescuing her, but then... she just sort of falls to the wayside. In the last half of the book, she's mentioned maybe twice. It bothers me that she could be so suddenly unimportant to the point of not even being mentioned. There are 13 weeks of the football season where Quentin doesn't even bother to think about his sister. I know he's focused on football, but come on! She's not just part of your life during the off-season, Quentin!
